Germany’s Merkel seeks breakthrough in all-night talks on new government – BBG

Bloomberg reports comments from a a senior official in Merkel’s chancellery, Helge Braun, as saying that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germany’s Social Democrats negotiated through the night to try to work out a government alliance, in yet another effort to end the political gridlock.

The parties had set themselves a Thursday deadline, though Merkel said at the outset that the talks would be arduous.

Braun told reporters, “It’ll take a while yet.”
