S&P 500 Index opens flat little above 4,500

  • Wall Street's main indexes opened near Wednesday's closing levels.
  • S&P 500 Real Estate Index is down more than 1%.
  • Upbeat data from the US failed to improve the market mood.

Major equity indexes in the US started the day flat on Thursday as investors await the next significant catalyst. As of writing, the S&P 500 Index was up 0.05% on the day at 4,510, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was gaining 0.07% at 35,060 and the Nasdaq Composite was rising 0.1% at 15,308.

Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Real Estate Index is down 1% after the opening bell. On the other hand, the Financials Index is the top performer in the early trade, gaining 0.45%.

Earlier in the day, the data published by the US Department of Labor revealed that the Initial Jobless Claims declined to the lowest level since March 2020 at 310,000 but this print doesn't seem to be helping the market sentiment improve.
